1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang

Everyone recognises Shelby GT500 from the original film “Gone In 60 Seconds” to the latest Nicolas Cage version “Gone In 60 Seconds” dubbed as Elanoir. Although 100′ jumps and nitrous oxide aren’t part of the Shelby GT500 as portrayed in the movie it is still one of the greatest Muscle Cars to ever grace us with its presence.

The Shelby GT500 was stuffed with a 7Litre 428 cubic inch V8 that pumped out a staggering 400hp at 5600rpm and 500nm of torque! Coupled to a 4spd manual with a pair of rear mounted 600cfm Holley carby’s.

The exterior of the GT500 was a sea of fibreglass to distinguish itself from its far less potent bretheren(stock mustang). The nose cone was made longer/larger with twin 7″ driving lights in the centre of the mesh grill. Boot lid, flares, quarter panels along with front lower and rear spoiler were all fibreglass pieces. The bonnet also feature functional dual scoops to add to the already aggressive look of the GT500.

The GT500 had a serious race pedigree, that being displayed by Shelby including such things as bonnet pins, 2 point roll bar (roll cage) as standard features of the GT500.

All ‘67 Shelbys came with the GT350 or GT500 rocker panel stripes, a front grille emblem, front quarter panel emblems, a rear deck emblem and a pop-open gas cap which had a Shelby Cobra cover. Some of the early cars have flat caps, but most other have curved caps.

The interior of the GT500 followed the exteriors lead. Aluminium dash decked out with 140mph speedo alongside an 8000rpm tachometer, woodgrain steering wheel and a choice of either black or parchment seats.

Unlike modern cars of today - when the GT500 is started it roars to life and settles into a nice burble which shakes the Mustang from side to side like a V8 powered beast should.
